Upgrading The Look Of Your Kitchen With A Tight Budget

Posted on: 11 August 2015

If you have an outdated kitchen, and you do not have the money to pay for a large remodeling project at the time, there are several small steps you can use to transform the appearance of your kitchen on your own. These are great methods to incorporate within the room as you save up your money for remodeling. Here are a few ideas you can use in your own kitchen, giving it a new look with minimal cost.

Incorporate Color

Painting your kitchen is a great way to make it appear totally different than it is presently. Pick a color you enjoy and purchase a few hues of paint within this color scheme. If you decide to paint the kitchen blue, use light and dark blue to accent a medium blue color. Paint the walls in the base color and the trim in a darker hue of the color. Paint the ceiling in a lighter shade.

Upgrade The Cabinets

Kitchen cabinets are a focal point within the room that can be changed for the better very easily. Consider staining your cabinets in a darker color to pull attention to the beauty of the wood instead of to other areas of your kitchen that need work. Paint your cabinets white or another light shade and add handmade stenciling along the edges or corners of each section to give your kitchen a country feel. At the very least, change the hardware on each of your cabinets so they look shiny, polished and new.

Update The Back Splash

Purchase tiles to place on the wall behind your oven area. You can use patterned tiles or place solid colored tiles in a pleasing arrangement, making a pattern out of the colors of the tiles themselves. An inexpensive option is to place peel and stick tiles in this area. Simply draw guidelines on your wall after using a level and measuring tape, and stick the tiles on the wall for a great updated look.

Use A Theme To Help

Select a theme to use in your kitchen and use it throughout to change the look. Look for inexpensive kitchen towels, pot holders, oven mitts, area rugs, wall hangings, and magnets in the theme to place around the room. You can take your time adding new pieces by looking at yard sales or purchasing the items when they are on sale. Use something that is fairly easy to find, such as a cow theme or a fruit theme. Once you start, keep on adding small knickknacks and utensils in the theme, making it a fun way to decorate without spending a ton of money to get a new look.
